Choices in Life
I have spoken to Barack on many occasions however there was one night many years ago when he was contemplating a serious move for the Presidency. Well while I was berating him about the evils of smoking cigarettes--he mentioned this...

May The Greatest RIP
So, eventually I will come out of blog retirement. There's just so much going on that requires time.
Anyway, as the, presumably, republican that I respect, I came here looking for your thoughts on Palin.
I honestly just want to hear the other side. This election was important on some many levels. And having her on the ticket just took it to a new level.
PS. My uncle is a republican but I don't respect him. So he doesn't count. He's a republican simply for the money issue. GOP lets the well off keep more of it.

the Angel Gabriel,
Your compliment is greatly appreciated. Sorry to hear about your uncle, there should be other reasons why someones chooses their party affiliation other than money. I know what you mean about coming out of retirement, I have been trying to do so for quite some time and I think I am close. I must say BO had an amazing DNC, damn he had me rethinking my vote. In the end, that wont happen. I figured Mac was going to pull one out of the hat but I didnt figure on Palin. She has been a "fresh face" if you will rather than the typical line of individuals that are paraded before us. I was reluctant at first but she appears to have quite a bit going for her. What little we know about her, she seems sincere. I know recently with that one individual who commented about God being on the side of Democrats didnt help his people, I believe BO's preacher didnt help his cause, BO has dropped mysteriously in the polls over the months since that incident. Mac has now achieved some equity in the polls, that cant be good for the DEMs--especially since they just had a killer DNC. This will not be a landslide election for either one of these men but Im sure you have heard it already, Palin will either go down as a disaster or pure genius as a pick for VP. Thank you for inspiring healthy debate.
PS...good to see again, hope all is well with you and your family.

1. I wouldn't put too much stock in the national polls. The presidency is won by electoral votes so the state polls will be much better gauges as we get closer.
And even those may ultimately not paint an accurate picture. BO is banking on young, new, and independent voters that I think are misrepresented in the polls especially since they tend to use landlines to call people. Who still has a landline?
Should be interesting this fall. I do have "Obama 08" tatooed on my ass but I have no clue where the majority of the country will be.
2. I disagree with Mccain but I'm at least comfortable with his qualifications for president. Palin genuinely terrifies me. I just don't see her able to deal with the big problems this country is facing.
Running Alaska just doesn't strike confidence in me. The issues they deal with don't compare to the ones for a governor in a bigger state with more people and more moving pieces.
I know Mccain is at the top of the ticket but he has one foot in the grave so the VP choice is more important to me. His choice strikes me as what's best for his personal ambition than what's best for the country. There are other republican women who are more qualified, but he's just trying to win.

I know but I dont have much else to gauge the run for presidency by--the polls that is. Its hard to say who is going to be there at the end but I believe the next couple of months is going to be the most compelling run we have ever seen in the history of presidential elections. Can you blame the guy for trying to win, isnt that what its all about no matter what your affiliation is. Look at this new thing with the pregnant daughter, what does that have to do with the price of rice? The state trooper stuff is almost secondary and thats the more legit story to follow up on. Are you sure Palin doesnt terrify you because she can shoot a gun?

1. Agree, the presidential race is the hot ticket of the year.
2. Don't blame him for trying to win. I blame him for being negligent. For a man that talks about "country first" and about "honor", this choice doesn't reflect either of those.
With his age and health history, he should not put us in the position to deal with a president Palin. Or is this the new GOP strategy? To keep their most qualified candidates hidden in alaska only to spring up 60 days before the election and be unknown to both the country and the candidate?
3. Her daughter is hot right now because of her super conservative views. As we continue the 60 day sprint to find out who this person is, the focus on troopergate will eventually come.
4. The fact that she shoots a gun doesn't scare me. The fact that ALL we know about her is that she shoots a gun does scare me. That's terrifying because she's 60 days and one heartbeat away from being president.
No one knows her (including Mccain).
5. I'll end on an ignorant note that made me laugh. Quoting someone else:
"...and like with all those kids, with all those problems when does she have time to be a vice president. maybe her daughter wouldnt be pregnant if she was at home raising her family"

the Angel Gabriel,
Stupid me, there is one thing I didnt come to mind with me, besides her possibly becoming President while the VP, down the road she could actually run become President on her own two legs, then she will have to pick a VP, how weird would that be? Does she pick a man or does she pick woman? Anyway I just thought I would throw that out there.
Her daughter, I just dont see it, that issue is so irrelevant, its not even funny. The fact that she can shoot a gun is a point well taken. DAAYUM, that ignorant commment is one for the ages, you wouldve needed to say that in a room full of women, Democrat or Republican. Im sure its one that wouldve ended in castration.

So mccain dies and she becomes pres. So then she needs to pick a VP. So she chooses... Hillary Clinton!!! So we come full circle and the drama continues. Not likely but imagine...
