I know my beloved Yankees aren't the topic of conversation for folks especially with the war going on; the weekend of Live Earth; and the other extraneous crap you see in the news. I know some folks are probably quite happy about their woes and knowing in their hearts how the mighty have fallen.
This past weekend they finished the Yanks finished off the L. A. Angels with a 12-0 shutout yesterday. The Bombers also managed to beat up on the Angels Friday night as well but couldn't pull out the extra-inning 1-1 win against them Saturday. All in all it was a great weekend for them. The Angels have typically had their number since Joe Torre, the manager of the Yankees took over skipper duties in 1996. For some reason the Angels just have their number. Maybe, just maybe the tide is beginning to turn. The Yanks as of today are 10 games back behind the first place Boston Red Sox. That is not usually the place where the Yankees are by the All-Star break. They are usually in first or second place but NOT 10 games back. Yes, they have had their problems but as always they have been able to manage most of their issues quite well--not to mention a bit of luck and the Red Sox losing has helped the Yankees not be too far back.
I have always been a firm believer that if you are going to be a fan, you must be a fan through the tough times as well as the bad. You cant call yourself a fan when things aren't going well for your team and you abandon watching them or rooting for them. You have to watch the heartbreaking losses as well as the bottom of the ninth home runs to win the game. I have watched many a game with my face dropping into my hands in disbelief as they find ways to pull off colossal losses. Of course I have seen them do the unbelievable.
I am not worried nor have I been about the woes of the Yankees because I have seen them go through some crazy stuff and still make the playoffs and even win a World Series or two. It just seems this year with the humongous payroll and all-star talent, they should crushing their opponents. Unfortunately that is not the case, they are barely staying in the playoff hunt. With their upcoming schedule after the All-Star break the Yankees should know whether or not if its auction block time. The Yankees play all sub-500. teams over the next remaining 18 games in July. With the Boston Red Sox having their problems, this will be make or break time.
I look forward to posting in October how the Yankees won the World Series and taking some great photos at the parade. You "Yankee haters" out there......Lets Go Yankees!!! clap, clap......clap, clap, clap!!!
One of my dear friend's (who lives up your way) is also a diehard Yankees fan, so I empathize and feel badly for you...
Just a couple of words of encouragement for you... "you could be a Cincinnati Reds fan..."
How's that? ;-)

Cathy,
Oh damn, I see the REDS arent doing well at all. Yankee fans are quite spoiled and only understand one thing, World Series. Anything less than that is a failure of a season. I dont know if folks in other cities can comprehend what that must be like. I imagine the pressure the players must be under to produce such a monumental task every year. I suppose if you're the REDS, you just want to have a winning season at this point. The REDS will have and had their day in the sun. I can remember them sweeping the Yankees in 4 games in 1976 in the World Series.
